National Current Affairs
  • PM Narendra Modi today launched e-governance app titled UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance), which unifies over 100 central and state government services. 
    • The app presently offers services related to payment of bills, filing income tax, Aadhaar-related queries, among other things.
    • UMANG also allows a user to link their Aadhaar number and social media accounts with the app.
  • The government today selected famous monument Charminar located in Hyderabad as a 'Swachh Iconic Site' and directed the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to ensure cleanliness around the monument. 
  • The cabinet today approved ‘Pradhan Mantri Mahila Shakti Kendra’ scheme for a period 2017-18 to 2019-20.
    • The scheme is part of Umbrella Scheme “Mission for Protection and Empowerment for Women” of the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development. 
    • Aim of this Scheme : Empowering rural women through community participation to create an environment in which they realise their full potential.
  • The Election Commission has restored the 'Two leaves' symbol of the AIADMK for the party's E Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam camp
  • Aiming to provide ₹5,000 as financial aid to pregnant and lactating mothers, the Maharashtra Cabinet today approved the implementation of Centre's Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana.
  • The cCabinet today approved expansion of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Yojana for a pan India coverage from 2017-18 to 2019-20.
    • This expansion will cover all the 640 districts of the country to have a deeper positive impact on Child Sex Ratio (CSR).
    • Note : Currently the scheme is being implemented in select 161 districts have low CSR.

  • The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, and three IITs of Bombay, Delhi and Madras have been named among Top 20 universities in BRICS countries in the QS Rankings 2018. 
MOUs & Agreements
  • Myanmar and Bangladesh today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the return of over 6 lakh Rohingya Muslims who had fled to Bangladesh to escape a violent crackdown by the Myanmar military. 
Science & Technology
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 5th Edition of Global Conference on Cyber Space (GCCS) in New Delhi
    • This is one of world’s largest conferences on cyber space. 
    • For the first time India is organizing this conference. 
    • Theme of GCCS 2017 : “Cyber4All: A Secure and Inclusive Cyberspace for Sustainable Development”.
  • In his budget speech, British finance minister Philip Hammond has announced that the government is going to launch Driverless cars by 2021
    • He will announce $99 million funding for artificial intelligence to achieve the same in coming years. 
Recent Committees in News
  • The government today constituted a Task force for redrafting the over 50-year-old income tax law, keeping in view the economic needs of the country. 
    • The panel will have Arbind Mody, CBDT Member (Legislation) as the Convener. 
    • The panel, which will have CEA Arvind Subramanian as a permanent special invitee, will submit its report to the government within 6 months.
New Appointments
  • Shubhangi Swaroop today created history by becoming 1st ever female pilot to be inducted into the Indian Navy
  • Ex-Zimbabwean Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who was fired earlier this month by then-President Robert Mugabe over alleged "traits of disloyalty", will be sworn in as the country's President on Friday.
    • This comes after Mugabe, who ruled the nation for 37 years, resigned from the post after being placed under house arrest by the military.

    1. Government should give web applications as computers are handy and have charge for 10 hours and easy,,,mobile is very small and power consuming...Please.
