  • US President Donald Trump met his Philippine counterpart Rodrigo Duterte for the first time at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Vietnam today.  
  • India has been ranked the world's Sixth most vulnerable country facing climate risk, as per Berlin-based NGO Germanwatch, which analysed data from 1997-2016.

  • The US Congress has authorised up to $700 million to reimburse Pakistan for activities supporting US operations in Afghanistan.
MOUs & Agreements
  • The Union Cabinet has recently approved the following agreements :
    • MOU signed between India and Philippines in field of agriculture and related fields to improve bilateral cooperation in field of agriculture and will be mutually beneficial to both countries. 
    • Agreement between India and Hong Kong for Avoidance of Double Taxation and Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to taxes on income.
    • Protocol amending Agreement between India and Kyrgyz for avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income.
    • Joint Interpretative Declaration (JID) between India and Colombia regarding existing Agreement for Promotion and Protection of Investments.
National Current Affairs
  • Today is Public Service Broadcasting Day.
    • People observe this day in the memory of the first and only address by Mahatma Gandhi on All India Radio (AIR) on November 12 in 1947.
  • With an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 491 on the 500-point scale, PM Modi's Constituency, Varanasi has become the most polluted Indian city among 42 cities, according to data from Central Pollution Control Board. 
    • Note : Gurugram was the 2nd most polluted with an AQI of 480.
  • Maharashtra government has decided that scholarships reserved for Other Backward Classes (OBC) students will be extended to students belonging to Economically Backward Classes (EBC) including the Maratha community. 
    • In a government resolution, the state also increased the annual income limit for availing the scholarships from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹6 lakh.
  • The Punjab government has announced that it will organise a Military Literature Festival in Chandigarh from December 7-9.
    • The event aims to bring together Indian and foreign defence analysts and showcase the capabilities of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force. 
  • The Union Cabinet approved appointment of Second National Judicial Pay Commission (SNJPC) for subordinate judiciary in country.

Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • Debt-ridden Air India has received a loan worth ₹1,500 crore from Bank of India to meet urgent working capital needs.
    • Prior to this, the airline had borrowed around ₹3,250 crore as short-tenure loans from IndusInd Bank and Punjab National Bank.
  • As a reply to an RTI query, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that it has decided not to pursue a proposal for introducing Islamic banking in India
    • Note : Islamic banking is based on the principles of not charging interest, which is prohibited under Islam.  
  • Debit cards, credit cards, and ATMs will become technologically redundant in nearly four years, NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant has said. 
    • Adding that people would use their mobile phones for financial transactions, he said that India would make a lot of innovations since it is the only country with a billion biometrics and as many mobile phones and bank accounts.

  • Arjuna-awardee gymnast Dipa Karmakar was honoured with a D.Litt. degree from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Agartala
    • Note : The 24-year-old from Tripura became the first Indian woman gymnast to qualify for the Olympics before narrowly missing out on the bronze medal in the women's vault event at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
Deaths
  • Former Indian Test cricketer AG Milkha Singh (75) passed away.
    • Singh has played four Test matches in the early 60s and represented Madras (now Tamil Nadu) in the Ranji Trophy.
    • He scored over 4,000 runs in first-class cricket.
New Appointments
  • The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) has named former Managing Director of Intel South Asia Debjani Ghosh its president-designate. 
    • She is going to replace R Chandrashekhar after his tenure ends in March 2018.
Sports Current Affairs
  • Indian professional English billiards player Pankaj Advani clinches his 17th world title after thrashing Mike Russell in IBSF World Billiards Championship.
  • 28-year-old French judoka Teddy Riner won all-time record 10th world title at the World Open Championships in Morocco today. 
  • Former Indian captain MS Dhoni officially launched his first global cricket academy in Dubai, UAE.
    • The academy has been named MS Dhoni Cricket Academy (MSDCA) and will have a team of coaches from India, led by former Mumbai bowler Vishal Mahadik. 
  • Indian mixed martial artist Bharat Khandare has become the first fighter from India to sign with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
