According to Moneycontrol.com, the employee strength has come down in the last six months after the merger of SBI with associate banks including State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Patiala, State Bank of Travancore, and Bharatiya Mahila Bank. The staff strength has come down to 2,69,219 staff as on September 2017 compared to 2,79,803 as on March 2017.

SBI, which is among the top 50 banks globally, further expects retirements and redeployment of staff to improve productivity. Full year retirements in FY18 are expected to be at 15,460. Programming Language

A programming language consists of words, symbols and usage rules pertaining to the grammar that permits people to communicate with the computer. Understanding of computer software is imperfect without a basic knowledge of programming languages. Programming languages allow the programmers and end users to develop the programmes that are executed by the computer. Many programming languages exist in the world today. Each one of the languages have their own unique vocabulary, grammar and usage. Some of these languages have been created to serve a special purpose while others are more flexible and general purpose and are suitable for many types of applications. However in general, programming languages must cater to the following tasks :
  • input/ output
  • text manipulations/ calculations
  • logic/ comparison
  • storage/ retrieval

CLASSIFICATION OF PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES

Machine Languages : Machine language is the lowest form of computer language. Programmes  were only written in binary based machine level language in the first generation computers. The computer understands this language only at its lowest level.

An instruction perpared in machine language has two parts :
  1. Op-code : This is the first part and is the command or operation and it tells the computer what function to perform.
  2. Operand : The second part of the instruction is the operand and it tells the computer where to find or store the data or instructions that are to be manipulated. The number of operands in an instruction varies from computer to computer. In a single operand machine, the binary equivalent of "ADD0481" could cause the value in a storage location 0481 to be added to a value stored in the arithmetic & logic unit. The single operand format is popular in the smallest microcomputers whereas the two operand structure is found in most other machines.

Banking & Financial Awareness : Weaknesses of Indian Financial System

Weaknesses of Indian Financial System

Friends, in today's Banking & Financial Awareness lesson series, we shall learn about the weaknesses of Indian Financial System. After the introduction of planning, rapid industrialisation has taken place. It has in turn led to the growth of the corporate sector and the Government sector. In order to meet the growing requirements of the Government and the industries, many innovative financial instruments have been introduced. Besides, there has been a mushroom growth of financial intermediaries to meet the ever-growing financial requirements of different types of customers. Hence, the Indian financial system is more developed and integrated today than what it was 50 years ago. Yet, it suffers from some weaknesses as listed below :
  • Lack of Co-ordination between different Financial Institutions : There are a large number of financial intermediaries. Most of the vital financial institutions are owned by the Government. At the same time, the Government is also the controlling authority of these institutions. In these circumstances, the problem of co-ordination arises. As there is multiplicity of institutions in the Indian financial system, there is a lack of co-ordination in the working of these institutions.
  • Monopolistic Market Structures : In India, some financial institutions are so large that they have created a monopolistic market structure in the financial system. For instance, a major part of life insurance business is in the hands of LIC. The UTI has more or less monopolised the mutual fund industry. The weakness of this large structure is that it could lead to inefficiency in their working or mismanagement or lack of effort in mobilising savings of the public and so on. Ultimately, it would retard the development of the financial system of the country itself.

Need of Educational Reforms in India

India is currently being developed as a universal leader and moreover a strong nation. Education helps a nation to build and develop the requisite knowledge for the growth of its economy.

In India, education is provided by both public and private sectors that plays a pivotal role in the growing stage of human beings. Our education system needs serious reforms since we have acompletely academically oriented education system. Moreover, the quality of education provided by the teachers has been degraded to a primitive level.

Although inclusive growth has gone to a broader level, there certainly are few areas where discrimination has an adverse effects on students. A lot still needs to be done in these areas to stretch the reach of education to the downtrodden. Though the public education system is available, it does not follow the statute and are affected by the severe scarcity of quality teachers as well as the resource crunch in schools.
