  • Carnage - a situation in which there is a lot of death and destruction
  • Lax -  not paying enough attention to rules, or not caring enough about quality or safety
  • Gun control - laws that prevent people from keeping and using guns
  • Mass - a large quantity or number
  • Regulation - an official rule that controls the way that things are done
  • Bloody - covered with or full of blood
  • Rampage - to behave in an uncontrolled way, especially when this involves damaging or destroying property over a wide area
  • Dense - containing a lot of things or people close together
  • Concert - an event at which an orchestra, band, or musician plays or sings in front of an audience
  • Injure - to hurt someone and cause damage to their body
  • Perched on - to sit on the edge of something
  • Virtual - almost the same as the thing that is mentioned
  • Subsequently - after something else happened
  • Self-inflicted injury - a self-inflicted injury, condition etc is one that you cause yourself
  • Prevail - to exist at a particular time or in a particular situation
  • Speculation - ideas or discussion about why something has happened or what might happen
  • Mounted - if a particular feeling mounts, it gets stronger over a period of time
  • Reportedly - according to what many people say
  • Authenticity - the quality of being real
  • Oft - often
  • Reform - a change that is intended to correct a situation that is wrong or unfair
  • Despite - used for saying that something happens even though something else might have prevented it
  • Former - used for describing someone or something that had a particular job, title, status etc in the past, but not now
  • Loophole - something that has been left out of a law or legal document that people can use to avoid obeying it
  • Enforcing - to make sure that a law or rule is obeyed by people
  • Ambitious - an ambitious plan, aim, or attempt is difficult and will need a lot of effort to succeed
  • Proliferation - a sudden increase in number or amount
  • Aftermath - the effects and results of something bad or important
  • Hostile -  behaving in a very unfriendly or threatening way towards someone
  • Conservative - not willing to accept much change, especially in the traditional values of society
  • Reluctance - a feeling of being unwilling to do something or of wishing that you did not have to do it
  • Insidious - something that is insidious is dangerous because it seems to be harmless or not important but in fact causes harm or damage
  • Lobbying - to try to influence politicians or people in authority on a particular subject
  • Deep-pocketed - a deep-pocketed person or organization has a lot of money to spend
  • A myriad of something - an extremely large number of people or things, especially one that is too large to count
  • Spokesperson - someone whose job is to officially represent an organization, for example in dealing with journalists
  • Ally -  someone who is ready to help you
  • Campaign - a series of actions intended to produce political or social change
  • Pandered to someone / something - to do or say what someone wants in order to please them, even though you know it is not right
  • Fear-mongering - the process of saying or doing something in order to deliberately make people feel worried or frightened
  • Proclivity - a tendency to want to do a particular thing, especially something bad
  • Amendment - a change made to a law or agreement
  • Stringent - stringent rules or conditions are strict and make you achieve high standards
  • Tragedy - a very sad event that causes people to suffer or die
  • Influenza - a very common infectious disease that lasts a short time and makes you feel hot or cold, weak, and tired
  • Outbreak - the sudden start of war, disease, violence etc
  • Scale up - to make something larger in size, amount etc than it used to be
  • Surveillance - the careful watching of a person or place
  • Pandemic - a disease that affects almost everyone in a very large area

  • Catching up - to improve in order to reach the same standard or rate as someone or something

  • Acute - very serious or severe
  • Febrile - relating to a fever
  • Diagnose - to find out what physical or mental problem someone has by examining them
  • Spike - a sudden increase
  • Substantially - by a large amount or degree
  • Viral - caused by or relating to a virus
  • Genome - the complete set of genetic material of a human, animal, plant, or other living thing
  • Woefully - used for emphasizing that something is very bad or does not happen enough
  • Mutation - a change in the genes of a plant or animal that causes it to become different from others of its type
  • Evade - to avoid or escape from someone or something
  • Immune - safe from a disease, because you cannot be infected by it
  • Lethality - the capacity to cause death or serious harm or damage
  • Menace - someone or something that is dangerous and likely to cause harm
  • Antiviral - (chiefly of a drug or treatment) effective against viruses
  • Efficacy - effectiveness in producing the result that you intended
  • Diabetic -  someone who has diabetes (a serious medical condition in which your body does not produce enough insulin to reduce the amount of sugar in the blood)
  • Mammoth - extremely large
  • Tuberculosis - a serious infectious disease affecting your lungs
  • Perception - a particular way of understanding or thinking about something
