International Current Affairs
  • India has not invited Pakistan and North Korea to attend the 1st Global Conference on Consumer Protection which is going to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi next week.
    • The two-day Regional Conference on Consumer Protection will be held on October 26-27 and will see the participation of 23 countries, besides India, which is organising the event at the request of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
  • India has topped the List of countries with pollution-related deaths in 2015, with 2.51 million people dying prematurely in the country that year due to diseases linked to air, water and other forms of pollution, according to a new study published in the reputed medical journal, The Lancet.
    • India accounted for about 28 per cent of an estimated 9 million pollution-linked deaths worldwide in 2015, the study found.
    • It also topped the list of deaths linked to polluted air (1.81 million) and water (0.64 million).

    • Police Commemoration Day is being obserevd across the country today.
      • Home Minister Rajnath Singh lays wreath and paid homage to police martyrs at Police Memorial Ground in New Delhi.
      • Since independence, 34,418 police personnel have lost their lives while protecting the country.
      • What is Police Commemoration Day ?
      • Police Commemoration Day is bserved on October 21 every year to remember the sacrifices of ten policemen who died in Chinese firing in 1959.
    Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
    • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today clarified that the linkage of Aadhaar number to one's bank account is mandatory in applicable cases. 
      • This comes a day after several reports claimed that Aadhaar number linkage with bank accounts is not mandatory, quoting an RTI application. 
      • Note : The banks had already warned customers that their accounts will be suspended if they aren't linked to Aadhaar.
    New Appointments
    • The Vice President of United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum today announced the appointment of Omar Sultan Al-Olama as the country's first-ever Artificial Intelligence Minister
    Sports Current Affairs
    • India beats Pakistan  to enter final of 10th men's Asia Cup hockey tournament on Saturday.
    • World number eight Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth defeated world number one Denmark's Viktor Axelsen to advance to the semi-finals of the Denmark Open today.
