Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "In the air: on the no-fly list"
  • In the air - if something is in the air, you feel that it is happening or about to happen
  • Innovation - a new idea, method, piece of equipment etc
  • Unruly - very difficult to control
  • Gravity -  the seriousness or importance of something
  • Offence - a crime or illegal activity for which there is a punishment
  • Stringent - stringent rules or conditions are strict and make you achieve high standards
  • Aviation - connected with making or flying planes
  • Quantum of punishment - the amount of punishment that a person deserves or that the court has awarded
  • Compensation - money that someone receives because something bad has happened to them
  • Allegation - a statement that someone has done something wrong or illegal even though this has not been proved
  • Aggrieved - feeling angry and unhappy because you think you have been treated in an unfair way
  • Appellate - relating to a legal appeal
  • Empowering - to give a person or organization the legal authority to do something
  • Graver - so serious that you feel worried
  • Widespread - happening or existing in many places, or affecting many people
  • Entitlement - the feeling that you have the right to do or have what you want without having to work for it or deserve it, just because of who you are
  • Unruly - very difficult to control
  • Subsequently - after something else happened
  • Grudging - done in an unwilling way
  • Apology - a statement that tells someone that you are sorry for doing something wrong or for causing a problem
  • Provision - a part of an agreement or law that deals with a particular problem
  • Necessitating - to make something necessary
  • As a last resort - used for saying that you will do something only after trying everything else to solve a problem
  • Ideally - used for saying what you would like to happen or how things should be if everything that you wanted were possible
  • Deterrent - something that makes people decide not to do something by making them realize that something unpleasant could happen to them
  • Egregious - extremely bad
  • Isolate - happening only once, or existing only in one place
  • Consequence - a result or effect of something
  • Inefficiency - not organized, skilled, or able to work in a satisfactory way
  • Over-booking - to sell more tickets than you have available
  • Threat - a suggestion that something unpleasant or violent will happen, especially if a particular action or order is not followed
  • Evade -  to avoid accepting or dealing with something that you should do
  • Profitability - the degree to which something is profitable, or the state of being profitable
  • Shakeout - a major change in an industry that causes some companies to close or a lot of people to lose their jobs
  • Enhance - to improve something
  • Angst - a strong feeling of worry about what you should do, how you should behave
  • Preventive - done so that something does not become worse or turn into a problem
  • Egregious - extremely bad
  • Resurgence - the start of something again that quickly increases in influence, effect etc
  • Phenomenal - extremely impressive or surprising
  • Transported - if something transports you to a different time or place, it makes you feel as if you were in it
  • Precisely - exactly / clearly
  • Clinical - not showing any excitement or emotion
  • Ruthless - willing to make other people suffer so that you can achieve your aims
  • Transcend - to become free of negative attitudes, thoughts, or feelings that limit what you can achieve
  • Frenetic - done very fast and with a lot of energy, often by someone who is in a hurry
  • Monotone - unchanging / continuing in the same way
  • Soaked in - to spend time experiencing and enjoying the mood or feeling in a place
  • Applause - the sound of people clapping their hands repeatedly to show enjoyment or approval of something such as a performance or speech
  • Boisterous - lively and noisy
  • Merely - just / only
  • Debunk - to prove that something such as an idea or belief is false and silly
  • Triumph - to win a great victory, or to have a great success
  • Legacy - something that someone has achieved that continues to exist after they stop working or die
  • Cultivated - a cultivated person is well educated and knows how to behave politely
  • Innate - an innate quality or ability is one that you have always had
  • Relentlessness - something bad that is relentless never seems to stop or improve
  • Former - used for describing someone or something that had a particular job, title, status etc in the past, but not now
  • Conqueror - winner
  • Heart-warming - making you feel happy
  • Tactical - a tactical action is one that you do as part of a plan for achieving what you want
  • Mastery - great knowledge or skill
  • Advancement - progress
  • Painstakingly - very carefully and thoroughly
  • Impact - an effect, or an influence
  • Tribute - something that you do, say, or build to show that you respect and admire someone or something
  • Longevity - the fact of having a long life or existence
  • Injury - physical damage done to a person or a part of their body
  • Setback - a problem that delays or that stops progress or makes a situation worse
  • Remarkable - unusual in a way that surprises or impresses you
  • Triumph - a great victory or success
