Meet the next Chief Justice of India (CJI) - Dipak Misra

Supreme Court's senior-most judge, Justice Dipak Misra, has been appointed as the next Chief Justice of India. He is going to replace Justice JS Khehar after his retirement on 27th August 2017.

Misra was born on October 3, 1953. The 63-year-old was enrolled as an advocate on February 14, 1977. He practised law in Constitutional, Civil, Criminal, Revenue, Service and Sales Tax matters in the Orissa high court and the Service Tribunal.

He has also worked as an additional judge in the Orissa HC and was later a judge at the Madhya Pradesh high court.

Justice Misra became chief justice of Delhi high court on 24th May, 2010 and got promoted as a Supreme Court judge in 2011.

The law ministry on Tuesday notified his appointment as the next Chief Justice of India. 

Important Note : Misra will be the 45th Chief Justice of India. He will hold the office until his retirement on 2nd October 2, 2018.
