  • In Cricket, Tamil Nadu has won the domestic 50-over competition, the Vijay Hazare Trophy, for the fifth time. It was Tamil Nadu's third victory over Bengal in the final of this competition. 
  • The Centre has designated 12 Olympians as National Observers in their respective disci-plines to assist the Government, Sports Authority of India, and National Sports Federations (NSFs) concerned in the preparation and implementation of the long term development plan with respect to high priority and priority sports. 
  • These National Observers will be playing a key role in the implementation of action plans for Mission Olympics 2020, 2024 and 2028. Besides shooter Abhmay Bindra, other named as National Observers are P T Usha and Anju Bobby George (athletics), Sanjeev Kumar Singh (archery), Aparna Popat (bad-minton), MC Mary Kom and Akhil Kumar (boxing), Jagbir Singh (hockey), Somdev Dewarman (tennis), Karnam Malleshwari (weightlifting), Sushi! Kumar (wrestling), I M Vijayan (football), Khajan Singh (swimming) and Kamlesh Marta (table tennis).
  • With the 75-run victory over Australia on 7th March, 2017, India will retain its No. 1 ranking spot till the April 1 cut-off date, meaning the team is assured of a USD 1 million cash prize. 
  • India will retain its No.1 position In the ICC Test rankings owing to the series-levelling 75-run win in the second Test against Australia in Bengaluru. By retaining the spot till the April 1 cut-off date, Indian crick-eters will receive a cash prize of USD 1 million.
  • Patna Pirates has won the third season of Star Sports Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) by defeating U Mumba. In the final match played at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Deihl, Patna Pirates defeated U Mumba by 31-28 score in the thrilling 40 minute play.
  • To develop sports as a sector in the country and encapsulating every area including development of the sports industry and brand engagement, a two-day Sportex.Asia-2017 international conference held here on March 2-3. 2017. 
  • Indian eves beat Luxemburg 3-1 in the event final of the Second Division. Mouma Das gave a winning start to her team when she defeated Danielle Konsbruck 3-0. In men's team final, Harmeet Desai hogged the lime-light as India eked out a narrow win. 
  • Indian men's and women's team scripted history by clinching the gold medals at the World Table Tennis Team Championships with superb victories over Luxemburg and Brazil respectively. 
  • Philippines won the Asia Men's Rugby Sevens Trophy and secured a place in the Asia Rugby Sevens Series. The two-day championship was held on 3rd - 4th March, 2017, at Aspire Rugby Field in Doha, Qatar.
  • The Indian men's Rugby team defeated Pakistan 14-12 to secure the 7th rank at the Asia Men's Rugby Sevens Trophy. A total of 11 countries from across Asia vied for top honours in the championship. The teems were from: India, Singapore, Pakistan, Jordan, Philippines, Nepal, UAE, Thailand, Iran, Bangladesh and host Qatar. 
  • Defending a lowly 187 run target, India defeated Australia by 75 runs to win the second test match being played here and level the series 1.1 on the fourth day. 
  • Australia given a tricky target on a wearing wicket lost six wickets in the post lunch session and once speedsters Umesh Yadav took two wickets including key wicket of Steve Smith and lshant Sharma made early break-throughs, Ashwin ran through the Australian batting order and by the tea break with visi-tors down 101 for 6, the fate of the match was decided. 
  • Commonwealth nations could consider a scheme similar to the Business Travel Card scheme, used across the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, as a means of promoting intra-Commonwealth trade and investment. 
  • Inaugural meeting of Commonwealth Trade Ministers in London on March 9-10, con-vened by the CWEIC, and the Commonwealth Secretariat.
  • The Indian football team slipped two places to be at 132nd in the latest FIFA rankings issued, Among the countries from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), India raised a place to 19th among 46 nations. Iran, ranked 33rd internationally, leads the way. 
  • Argentina leads the international rankings fol-lowed by Brazil, Germany, Chile and Belgium. 
  • The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has announced a 10-member squad for the Chemistry Cup international event to be held in Halle, Germany, from March 13 to 18, 2017. 
  • The squad : Amit (49 kg), Deepa.k Singh (52 kg), Akshay Kumar (56 kg), Ankush Dahiya (60 kg), M.M. Thomas (64 kg), Duryodhan Singh Negi (69 kg), Jaideep (75 kg), Reyal Puri (81 kg), Gaurav Chauhan (91 kg), Parveen Kumar (+91 kg). 
  • The 16th Champions Trophy State inter-club basketball championship held at the Rajiv Gandhi indoor stadium. 
  • The men's champion will represent Kerala in the Federation Cup in Coimbatore from March 22 to 28, 2017 while a combined State team will be picked for the event In the women's section. 
  • The 7th National Inter Zonal T20 cricket tour-nament for the differently-abled held in Mumbai from March 30 to April 1, 2017.
