Ram Biles Sharma
  • Ram Biles Sharma, the Haryana Education Minister has been nominated as Chairman of Amateur Circle Kabaddi Federation of India (ACKFI) for the next four years. 
    • Note : The Amateur Circle Kabaddi Federation of India (ACKFI) was formed in 1978. The Federation is Affiliated with Asian Amateur Circle Kabaddi Federation and World Kabaddi Federation. 
Srishti Kaur
  • Srishti Kaur (India) has crowned 'Miss Teen Universe 2017' in the event held at the Ruben Dario National Theatre in Nicaragua's capital Managua. Samantha Pierre (Canada) and Ary Trava (Mexico) were the runners-up in the event. Nelda girl Srishti Kaur studies in London College of Fashion, succeeds Nieveles Gonzalez (Puerto Rico). 
    • Xirelle Agustin (Philippines) has won in the Teen Popularity category, while Nicole Obando (Costa Rican) won the award for Teen Charm. 
    • Note : The Miss Teen Universe beauty pageant for teens aged 15 to 19 is held by the Miss Universe Organization.

Vanaja N Sarna
  • Senior bureaucrat has been appointed as chairperson of Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC). 
    • Sarna, a 1980 batch officer of Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise). is at present member in the CBEC, an apex policy making body for indirect taxes. 
    • Note : The appointment comes at a time when the Centre is gearing up to roll out Goods and Services Tax (GST) - new Indirect tax regime - from July 1, 2017. The CBEC -which works under Finance Ministry -comprises of a chairperson and a maxi-mum of six members.
Justice Gita Migal
  • Appointed as the acting Chief justice of Delhi High Court succeeding Chief Justice Gotta Rohini. 
    • Earlier, she was appointed as Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court in 2004 and was made permanent in 2006.
Diplomat Vipul
  • A 1998 batch Indian Foreign Service officer today took up the charge as the new Consul General of Dubai succeeding Anurag Shushan. 
    • Note : Dubai is recognized as the commercial capital and tourism centre of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Indians in UAE constitute one of the largest migrant populations estimated at 2.6 million people. UAE is a strategically important country for India in the Gulf region. 
Rajiv Kumar Chander
  • Appointed as the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations Offices in Geneva. 
    • A1983 batch Indian Foreign Service officer is currently the consul general of India in Vancouver since August 2015. 
    • Note : He was the deputy permanent representative with the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, Geneva, between 2006 and 2009. He is expected to take up his assignment shortly. 
Justice Indira Banerjee 
  • A sitting judge of the Delhi High Court has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Madras High Court succeeding Sanjay Kishan Kaushal, who was transformed to the Supreme Court in February, 2017. 
    • Note : Justice Banerjee became the second woman to head the Madras High Court. Justice Kumari Bhatnagar was the first lady to head the charted court in 1992.
Raman Roy
  • Appointed as the new NASSCOM chairman for 2017 - 18, replacing CP Gurnani. 
    • He is one of the pioneers of the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry in India and CEO of his VC funded BPO Company 'Quatrro'. 
    • Note : The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) is a trade association of Indian Information Technology (IT) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry. 
Smt. Malvika Sinha
  • Appointed as the new Executive Director (ED) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). 
    • She will look after Foreign Exchange Department, Department of Government and Bank Accounts and Internal Debt Management Department. 
Bhimaraya Metri
  • Appointed as the Director of IIM Trichy replacing Prafulla Agnihotri in April, 2017. 
Mukta Dutta Tomar
  • Appointed as the new ambassador of India to the Federal Republic of Germany, succeeding Gurjit Singh. Tomer is presently Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.
Geeta Johari
  • A senior IPS Officer has been appointed as new Director General of Police (DGP) of Gujarat, replacing Mr. PP Pandey who had resigned from the post.
    • Johari has become the first woman Director General of Police of Gujarat.
Shiva Kirti Singh
  • Appointed as the next chairman of the Telecom Disputes Settlement 8 Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) for a period of three years. He replaced Justice 'Affab Alam'. 
    • Note : The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal was established to adjudicate disputes and dispose of appeals with a view to protect the interests of service providers and consumers of the telecom sector and to promote and ensure orderly growth of the telecom sector. 
Vinay Shah
  • Appointed as the new Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Director of LIC Housing Finance Limited. He has replaced 'Smt. Sunita Sharma' after Government had etevated her to Managing Director (MD) of LIC. Earlier, Shah was Executive Director- Marketing/ Product Development with LIC of India. 
    • Note : LIC Housing Finance Limited (LIC HFL) is one of the largest Housing Finance companies in India having its Registered and Corporate office at Mumbai. The main objective of the Company is to provide long term finance to Individuals for purchase or construction of houses. LIC HFL has regional offices (7), back-offices (21) and marketing units (240) across India. 
R.K. Pachnanda
  • Senior IPS officer has also been appointed as the DG of Indo-Tibetan Border Police tome (ITBP). 
    • Note : The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is the largest of India's Central Armed Police Forces under the aegis of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) of the Government of India. It came into existence as the Crown Representative's Police on 27 July 1939. It became the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on enactment of the CRPF Act on 28th December t949.
Ramanathan Ramanan
  • Appointed as the Mission Director of the Atal Innovation Mission under the Niti Aayog. Ramanan is at present working with the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his appointment.
Tamil Actor Vishal
  • He has been elected as the President of the Tamil Nadu Film Producers' Council. 
    • Vishal, who is also the general secretary of the South Indian Film Artistes' Association bagged a total of 476 votes, out of the 1,059 votes polled.
Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar
  • Appointed as the Director-General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) by the Union Government.
Justice S.Rajeswaran
  • Former High Court Judge Rajeswaran has been appointed as the Election Officer.

Obituary

Kishori Amonkar
  • Hindustani classical vocalist passed away in April, 2017. She was known primarily for her skillful singing of classical khayal songs set in the traditional ragas of Hindustani music, but also performed the lighter classical thumri repertoire, bhajan, devotional songs and film music. 
    • Note : Amonkar was considered one of the fore-most singers in the Hindustani tradition and is an innovator of the Jaipur gharana. 
Ajey Jhankar (57-years)
  • Noted filmmaker and scriptwriter passed away in April, 2017. Hollywood movie 'Singularity' by filmmaker, Roland Joffe was based on Jhankar's novel Ordinary'. He was the writer of well-known Marathi novel Sarkarnama'. 
Ho. Srinivasaiah (93-year)
  • Passed away in Bengaluru in April, 2017. He headed an organization 'the Karnataka Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi' for nearly four decades. 
M. Achuthan 
  • He was a renowned literary critic, passed away in Kochi where he was undergoing treatment. He served as the President of Samantha Kerala Sahithya Perished as well as Sahithya Pravarthaka Sahakarana Sangham. He was also the executive member of Kerala Sahitya Akademi.
Emma Merano (117-year)
  • The world's oldest woman passed away at her home in Verbania, northern Italy. She held the Guinness World Record titles for the oldest living person and oldest living woman. Marano (born on 29th November 1899) was the last known person born in the 19th century who was still alive.
