Profile in Courage Award

• Former US President Barack Obama has been named as the winner of the 2017 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage' award. The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation has honoured Obama Yor his enduring commitment to democratic ideals and elevating the standard of political courage in a new century'. The daughter of late Kennedy, Caroline Kennedy, and her son Jack Schlossberg, presented Mama with the award on May 7 in Boston.

Gallantry Awards

• 'Kirti Chakra', the second highest peacetime gallantry award went to a young officer, Major Rohit Sud, who was part of the surgical strikes last year. The seniormost Lieutenant General Eastern Army Commander Praveen Bakshi was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, the highest Distinguished Service Medal.

Lifetime Achievement Award

• Photojournalist Raghu Rai was conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) ministry for 'his remarkable contribution to the field'.

Dinanath Panty Smart Idea Innovation Award

• AnangTeder, a Class XI student of New Galaxy Academy, Nirjuli, Arunachal Pradesh was recently awarded the Dinanath Pandey Smart Idea Innovation Award for inventing a gadget called Goggle for Blind (G4B). The National Innovation Foundation has asked Anang to create a few prototypes for the visu-ally impaired to test.

Kala Ratan Award

• Veteran actor Ant'pam Kher (62-year) was honored with the Kula Ratan Award' from Panjab University by Vice President Named Ansari at Chandigarh. Earlier; The Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri in 2004 and the Padma Bhushan in 2016 for his contribution in the field of cinema and arts.

'Visitor's Award' for best university 

• Jawaharlal Nehru University has won the annual Visitor's Award for the 'Best University', 2017. Dr. Deepak Pant from Central University of Himachal Pradesh won the Visitor's Award for 'Innovation'. 
• Note : The Visitor's Award for 'Research' has been jointly won by Dr. Shyam Sunder from Banaras Hindu University and Prof. Niranjan Karak from Tezpur University. 

Krutitava Smagra Samman 

• Renowned Dogd poetess and writer has been awarded Krutitava Smagra Samman for 2015 by the Kolkata's Bharatiya Bhasha Perished.
• Sachdev received this award for her out-standing contribution in literature and great service to Dogd Language. 
• Note : West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi on 6th March 2017 presented the award to the poetess. The award carries an amount of Rs. one lalffi, a shawl and citation.

Service of Society Award

• Indian Institute of Technology-Madras has won the 2017 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Spectrum Technology in the Service of Society Award for its solar-direct current (DC) inverter system.
• Note : The system is also equipped to tap rooftop solar power, making it the most energy efficient solution for homes and offices. It was developed by Centre for Decentralised Power Systems at IIT-M.

Moortidevi award

• Eminent Malayalam author and journalist M P Veerendra Kumar presented the 30th Moortidevi award by Bharatiya Jnanpith organization. 
• Kumar was chosen for the prestigious award for his Malayalam travelogue 'Hymavathabhoovil', which dwells upon ancient trails of Indian culture, myth, litera-ture, and people strewn in the plains, valleys, and mountains of India. 
• Note : The award was presented by Jnanpith laureate M T Vasudevan Nair at a func-tion at the Tagore Centenary.

Nari Shakti Award

• Assam's woman activist Sumitra Hazarike received the Nari Shakti Award from President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Note: She is the President of Mission for Integration, Gender Equalisation, Harmony and Fight against Threat and was the only Assamese to receive the award this year. 

Artist of the Year award 

• Viola Davis has honored with the Harvard foundation 'Artist of the Year-2017 award' in Cambridge.
• Recently, she has won en Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA and the Screen Actors Guild Award for the best-supporting actress female for her performance as Rose Maxson in the film adaptation of August Wilson's play Fences'.
• Note : Harvard foundation award aims to hon-our the America's most acclaimed artists and scientists each year. 

International Film Festival and Awards of Australia (IFFAA) 

• Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has won the Best Actress award for her performance in Sarbjit at the International Film Festival and Awards of Australia (IFFAA). The film 'Sarabjit' was based on the story of an Indian national Sarbjit Singh (Randeep Hooda) who was punished by Pakistan's Supreme Court on the charges of spying.

BM Lifetime Achievement Award 

• Ms. Shama Rangaswamy has been nominat-ed for the award to recognize the contribu-tion of women cricketers. She led India in 12 Test matches and in 16 ODIs. 
• Apart from Mr. Vanum Vlswanath Kumar and late Ramakant Octal have been nom-inated for the BCCI Special Award in recognition of their yeoman services to Indian Cricket. 
• BCCI for the first time, has introduced the Lifetime Achievement Award for Women.
