Topic 1 : "The challenge in Jammu & Kashmir"

  • Of late - recently
  • Uncertainty - a ​situation in which something is not ​known
  • Strategically - in a planned manner
  • Significant - sufficiently great or important to be worthy of attention
  • Undoubtedly - without doubt
  • Separatist - a person who supports the separation of a particular group of people from a larger body on the basis of caste, religion, or gender
  • Discourse - communication in ​speech or writing
  • Mainstream - the ideas, attitudes, or activities that are shared by most people and considered as normal
  • Demise - a person's death
  • Culminated - reach a climax point (at the end)
  • Crisis - an ​extremely ​difficult or ​dangerous ​point in a ​situation
  • Coalition - the ​joining together of different ​political ​parties or ​groups for a ​particular ​purpose, usually for a ​limited ​time
  • Accusing - saying that you ​think someone has done something ​bad
  • Abiding - stick to a specific emotion / feeling without changing
  • Treaty - a written ​agreement between two or more ​countries / organizations, ​formally ​approved and ​signed by ​their ​leaders
  • Estrangement - to have had a ​serious ​argument with someone and no ​longer ​friendly with them
  • Unpopular - not liked by many people
  • Vague - not ​clearly ​expressed / ​known / decided
  • Alliance - an ​agreement to ​work with someone ​else to ​try to ​achieve the same thing
  • Forthright - honest or ​direct in ​behaviour
  • Insurgency - an ​occasion when a ​group of ​people ​attempt to take ​control of ​their ​country by ​force
  • Deficit - the amount by which something, especially a sum of money, is too small
  • Battered - damaged (hurt by being ​repeatedly ​hit)
  • Skilfully - with great skill
  • Successive - following one another
  • Backing - help / support
  • Bilateral - involving two countries / parties
  • Vulnerable - exposed to the possibility of being attacked or harmed
  • Alienation - the ​act of making someone ​stop ​supporting and ​agreeing with you
  • Scuttle - to ​escape
  • Subvert - try to ​destroy or ​damage something (​especially an ​established ​political ​system)
