Topic 1 : "Protecting the homebuyer"
  • Homebuyer - a person who buys a house or flat
  • Anticipated - to ​imagine or ​expect that something will ​happen
  • Rivalries - opponents (a ​situation in which ​people, ​businesses, etc. ​compete with each other for the same thing)
  • Stalled - stopped
  • Legislative - having the power to make laws
  • Muster - support
  • Enacted - make (a bill or other proposal) law
  • Inhibit - to ​prevent someone from doing something by making them ​feel ​nervous or ​embarrassed
  • Beware - used to ​warn someone to be very ​careful about something or someone
  • Breach - an ​act of ​breaking a ​law, ​promise, ​agreement
  • Alleviation - the act of reducing something unpleasant
  • Sheer - important
  • Foster - encourage the development of something
  • Fair play - ​fair and ​honest ​treatment of ​people
  • Equity - the quality of being fair and impartial
  • Haphazard - not having an ​obvious ​order or ​plan
  • Unscrupulous - behaving in ​dishonest or ​unfair way in ​order to get what you ​want
  • Escrow - an ​agreement between two ​people or ​organizations in which ​money or ​property is ​kept by a third ​person or ​organization until a ​particular ​condition is ​met
  • Mandatory - compulsory
  • Consent - permission for something to happen or agreement to do something
  • Provisions - a ​statement within an ​agreement or a ​law that a ​particular thing must ​happen or be done
  • Tandem - having two things arranged one in front of the other
  • Stringent - having a very ​severe ​effect, or being ​extremely ​limiting
  • Disclosure - the ​act of making something ​known
  • Desirable - ​worth having and ​wanted by most ​people
  • Quotient - a degree or amount of a specified quality or characteristic
  • Credibility - the quality of being trusted and believed in
  • Facilitate - to make something ​possible or ​easier
  • Prospective investors - people who are ​expected to invest on something
  • Rests with somebody - if a ​responsibility or ​decision ​rests with someone, they are ​responsible for it
  • Proof of the pudding - said to ​mean that you can only ​judge the ​quality of something after you have ​tried, used, or ​experienced it
Topic 2 : "Transparency at any cost"
  • Transparency - the ​quality of being done in an ​open way without ​secrets
  • Shutdown - a closure of a factory or system (due to a fault or for maintenance)
  • Inherent - existing as a ​natural or ​basic ​part of something
  • Associated - connected
  • Augmenting - to ​increase the ​size or ​value of something by ​adding something to it
  • Meltdown - an ​extremely ​dangerous ​situation in a ​nuclear ​power ​station in which the ​nuclear ​fuel ​becomes very ​hot and ​melts through ​its ​container and ​escapes into the ​environment
  • Core - central part
  • Reassuring - to ​comfort someone and ​stop them from ​worrying
  • Intended - planned / expected
  • Cascading - to happen quickly and continously in ​large ​amounts
  • Concern - worry about something
  • Coolant - a liquid or gas that is used to remove heat from something
  • Significant - important to be worthy of attention
  • Assessment - the ​act of ​judging something
  • Evokes - to make somebody feel something
  • No room for something - something is not ​acceptable
  • Complacency - a ​feeling of ​calm ​satisfaction with ​your own ​abilities or ​situation that ​prevents you from ​trying ​harder
  • Borne - ​carried or ​moved
  • Collusion - ​agreement between ​people to ​act together ​secretly or ​illegally in ​order to ​deceive or ​cheat someone
  • violations - an ​action that ​breaks or ​acts against something (law, agreement etc)
  • Detrimental - harmful
  • Heightened - increased
  • Reassure - to ​comfort someone and ​stop them from ​worryin
  • Grave - seriously bad
  • Averted - prevented
  • Enhancement - improvement
  • Emissions - the ​act of ​sending out ​gas, ​heat, ​light, etc
  • Renewable - can be ​produced as ​quickly as they are used
  • Pivotal - central and ​important
  • Alliance - an ​agreement to ​work with someone ​else to ​try to ​achieve the same thing
  • Plague - to cause worry / pain / difficulty
