Topic 1 : "Restoring goodwill with Kathmandu"

  • Restore - to return something or someone to an earlier good condition or position
  • Conclude - to end a speech, meeting, or piece of writing
  • Juncture - a particular point in time
  • Turmoil -  a state of confusion, uncertainty, or disorder
  • Tacit - understood without being expressed directly
  • Agitation -  worry and anxiety
  • Blockade - the ​situation in which a ​country or ​place is ​surrounded by ​soldiers to ​stop ​people or ​goods from going in or out
  • Prolong -  to make something last a longer time
  • Vacillate - to be uncertain what to do, or to change often between two opinions
  • Amendments - a change to a law that is not yet in operation and is still being discussed
  • Yield - produced or provided
  • Ease - to make or ​become less ​difficult, ​unpleasant, ​painful, etc
  • Stir - to cause problems between people
  • Unrest - a state of dissatisfaction, disturbance
  • Perceived - become aware or conscious of something
  • Partisanship - strongly ​supporting a ​person, ​principle, or ​political ​party, without ​considering or ​judging the ​matter very ​carefully
  • Resurgence - a new ​increase of ​activity or ​interest in a ​particular ​subject or ​idea that had been ​forgotten for some ​time:
  • Resurgence - bringing again into activity
  • Jingoism -  the ​extreme ​belief that ​your own ​country is always ​best
  • Stand-off - a ​situation in which ​agreement in an ​argument does not ​seem ​possible
  • Drained - very ​tired / to lose something
  • Devastating - causing a lot of ​damage or ​destruction
  • Recalibrate - readjust
  • Cordial - friendly, but ​formal and ​polite
  • Landlocked state - a state, which is almost surrounded by land
  • Overstated - to ​describe something in a way that makes it ​seem more ​important or ​serious than it really is
  • Spillover affect - a situation ​begins to ​affect another ​situation in an unpleasant or unwanted way
  • Turmoil - a state of great disturbance, confusion
  • Consensus - a general agreement
  • Emphasis - special importance
  • Dissenting - to ​disagree with other ​people about something
  • Onus - something that is one's duty or responsibility
  • Embargo - an official ban on trade or other commercial activity with a particular country
  • Normalcy - the condition of being normal
  • Brinkmanship - the ​activity of ​trying to get what you ​want by saying that if you do not get it, you will do something ​dangerous
  • Detrimental - causing ​harm or ​damage
  • Dwell on something - to ​keep ​thinking about something
  • Deterioration - the process of becoming worse
  • Equilibrium - a stable / balanced situation

Topic 2 : "A sordid record in Chhattisgarh"

  • Sordid -  ​morally ​wrong and ​shocking
  • Borne - Carried or transported by. Often used in combination: motorcycle-borne
  • Assailants - a ​person who ​attacks another ​person
  • Swollen  -  ​larger than ​usual
  • Watchdog - to watch carefully, esp. so as to detect illegal or unethical conduct
  • Allege -  to say that someone has done something ​illegal or ​wrong without giving ​proof
  • Assaulted - to ​attack someone ​violently
  • In the wake of - following or as a result of something
  • Endorse - to make a ​public ​statement of ​your ​approval or ​support for something or someone
  • Clampdown  - a ​sudden ​action taken by a ​government or ​people in ​authority to ​stop or ​limit a ​particular ​activity
  • Dissent - a ​strong ​difference of ​opinion on a ​particular ​subject, ​especially about an ​official ​suggestion or ​plan or a ​popular ​belief
  • Atrocity - an ​extremely ​cruel, ​violent, or ​shocking ​act
  • Intimidated  -  ​frightened
  • Eviction - to ​force someone to ​leave ​somewhere
  • Lodge - to make an ​official ​complaint about something
  • Retreat  - to go away from a ​place or ​person in ​order to ​escape from ​fighting or ​danger
  • Fierce -  ​strong and ​powerful
  • Plunder - to ​steal ​goods ​violently from a ​place
  • Loathe - to ​hate someone or something
  • Resistance -  the ​act of ​fighting against something that is ​attacking you, or ​refusing to ​accept something
  • Exemplify - to be or give a ​typical ​example of something
  • Trigger - an ​event or ​situation, etc. that ​causes something ​bad to ​start
  • Crackdown - a ​situation in which someone ​starts to ​deal with ​bad or ​illegal ​behaviour in a more ​severe way
  • Criminalisation  - the process by which behaviors and individuals are transformed into crime and criminals
  • Spotlight - focus
  • Illuminating - giving you new ​information about a ​subject or making it ​easier to ​understand
  • Absurd - stupid and ​unreasonable, or ​silly in a ​humorous way
  • Sedition - speech or behaviour directed against the peace of a state
  • Waging - to ​fight a ​war or ​organize a ​series of ​activities in ​order to ​achieve something
