Topic 1 : "Delivering on Make in India"

  • Face up to something - to accept that a difficult situation exists
  • Red tape - official ​rules and ​processes that ​seem ​unnecessary and ​delay ​results
  • Unviable - not capable of working successfully
  • Posing - causing
  • Threat - something likely to cause damage or danger
  • Heeded - pay attention to
  • Concern - worry
  • Impact - powerful effect
  • Intervention - to ​intentionally ​become ​involved in a ​difficult ​situation in ​order to ​improve it
  • Steer - to control
  • Roadblocks - something that stops progress
  • Ascertain - make sure of something
  • Billowing - ​spreading over a ​large ​area
  • Hub - central point
  • Reforms - make changes in something in order to improve it
  • Delegate - a person authorized to represent others, sent to a conference
  • Glitzy - fashionable and attractive
  • Emerge - to ​become ​known
  • Deregulation - reduction or elimination of government power in a particular industry
  • Demography - the ​study of ​changes in a ​particular ​area during a ​period of ​time
  • Retrospective - dealing with past events or situations.
  • Spooked - frightened
  • Pertinent - relevant
  • Sustained - continuing for an extended period or without interruption
  • Intent - intention or purpose
  • Yardstick - a standard by which you can ​judge the ​success or ​value of something
  • Stalled - stopped
  • Rolling out - to make a new ​product available for the first ​time

Topic 2 : "Unreasonable demands"

  • Unreasonable - not ​fair or ​acceptable
  • Recurrence - to ​happen many ​times or to ​happen again
  • Protests - an action expressing disapproval of or objection to something
  • Well-off - wealthy / rich
  • Perplexing - confusing
  • Prosperous - very rich
  • Regarded - consider or think of in a specified way
  • Might - power / strength
  • Evident - clearly seen or understood
  • Wield - to have a lot of ​influence or ​power over other ​people
  • Dominant - having power and influence over others
  • Overruled - rejected
  • Alliance - a union or association formed for mutual benefit
  • Reiterate - to say something again and again
  • Quash - to ​forcefully ​stop something that you do not ​want to ​happen
  • Bipartisan - involving the agreement or cooperation of two political parties that usually oppose each other's policies
  • Consensus - a general agreement
  • Emboldened - give someone the courage or confidence to do something
  • Protesters - people who ​shows that they ​disagree with something by ​standing ​somewhere, ​shouting, ​carrying ​signs, etc
  • Consequence - result
  • Uplift - improvement
  • Underprivileged - people without the ​money, ​education, ​opportunities, etc. that the ​average ​person has (poor people)
  • Strata - stages
  • Hierarchy - a ​system in which ​people or things are ​arranged ​according to ​their ​importance
  • Standing - position / status
  • Persisting - continue to exist
  • Sluggishness - moving or ​operating more ​slowly than ​usual and with less ​energy or ​power
  • Agrarian economy - the economy  makes ​its ​money from ​farming ​rather than ​industry
  • Fuelled - increased / maked it stronger
  • Diverse - very different
  • Do away with something - to get ​rid of something
  • Agitations - a state of anxiety or nervous excitement.
