Topic 1 : "Alert, fair, transparent"
  • Detention - the punishment of being kept in jail
  • Alleged - doubtful or suspect
  • Stark - extreme
  • Heightened - make (something) higher
  • Accuse - to say that someone has done something illegal
  • Domestic - ​relating to a person's own ​country
  • Lurking -  ​move in a ​secret way so that you cannot be ​seen
  • Next-door - very ​close
  • Lone wolf attacks - attacks of a singler person
  • IS Sympathisers - people who support IS
  • Modules - parts
  • Attendant - a person who is present on a particular occasion
  • Excess - an amount of something that is more than necessary
  • Painstaking - to take a lot of ​care or made a lot of ​effort
  • Diligence - careful and using a lot of ​effort
  • Fair Trial -  protecting innocent against injustice
  • Perception - the ​quality of being ​aware of things
  • Posture - a way in which a ​government or other ​organization ​thinks about and/or ​deals with a ​particular ​matter
  • Swiftly - quickly
  • Aggrieved - ​unhappy and ​angry because of ​unfair ​treatment
  • Harbouring - sheltering
  • Perceived - to come to an ​opinion about something
  • Grievance - complaint
  • Inflicted - forced someone to ​experience something very ​unpleasant
  • Distinct - clearly ​noticeable
  • Grave threat - serious risk / danger
  • Posed - caused

  • Turbulence - disturbance
  • Testimony - evidence or proof of something

  • Perhaps - we use this word to show that you are not ​sure about something
  • Exhortation - to ​strongly ​encourage someone to do something
  • Certainty - something that cannot be ​doubted
  • Posits - a statement which is made on the assumption that it will prove to be true
  • Emerging - starting to ​exist
  • Peers - people of same social position / abilities
  • Roil - to ​cause something to ​stop ​working in the ​usual or ​expected way
  • Hardest hit - badly affected
  • Domino effect - the ​situation in which something, usually something ​bad, ​happens, ​causing other ​similar ​events to ​happen
  • Retard - delay the progress or development
  • Credence - truthfulness / believability
  • Assertions - a ​statement that you ​strongly ​believe is ​true
  • Engender - to make something happen
  • Hazard - a danger or risk
  • Volatility - ​likely to ​change ​suddenly and ​unexpectedly
  • Notwithstanding - in spite of something
  • Running out of something - lack of something (you don't have enough of something)
  • Ammunition - a supply or quantity of bullets and bombs
  • Monetary - relating to money or currency
  • Easing - move carefully
  • Efficacy - the ability to produce a desired result
  • Admonition - serious advice (warning)
  • Elite - the ​richest / most ​powerful ​group in a ​society
  • Anticipate - to ​imagine or ​expect that something will ​happen
  • Rhetoric - speech or writing ​intended to be ​effective and ​influence ​people
  • Stances - a way of ​thinking about something
  • Burgeoning - begin to grow or increase rapidly
  • Discontent - dissatisfaction
