Topic 1 : "Uncertainty in Jammu & Kashmir"

  • Uncertainty -  a ​situation in which something is not ​known
  • Speculation - the ​activity of ​guessing ​possible ​answers to a ​question without having enough ​information to be ​certain
  • Studiedly - very ​carefully and ​intentionally
  • Air is thick with something - there is too much of "something" is happening
  • Ditch - to get ​rid of something or someone that is no ​longer ​wanted
  • Ambition - a strong desire to do or achieve something
  • Revive - restore to life or consciousness
  • Stint - a ​fixed or ​limited ​period of ​time ​spent doing a ​particular ​job or ​activity
  • Negotiating - to have ​formal ​discussions with someone in ​order to ​reach an ​agreement with them
  • Perceived - to come to an ​opinion about something, or have a ​belief about something
  • Reinforce - to make something ​stronger
  • Sombre - dark / ​serious / ​sad
  • Holding all the cards - to be in a ​strong ​position when you are ​competing with someone ​else, because you have all the ​advantages
  • Dilemma - a ​situation in which a ​difficult ​choice has to be made between two different things you could do
  • Obvious - easy to ​see, ​recognize, or ​understand
  • Stemming - originate in or be caused by
  • Dissent - a ​strong ​difference of ​opinion on a ​particular ​subject, ​especially about an ​official ​suggestion or ​plan or a ​popular ​belief
  • Consolidate - make (something) physically stronger or more solid
  • Allegiance - the loyalty of a citizen to his or her government
  • Administering - to ​control the ​operation or ​arrangement of something
  • Healing - to make or ​become well again
  • Coalitions - group of people who join together for a common cause
  • Spectacularly - in a very ​beautiful way that ​people ​admire
  • Conciliatory - to end a ​disagreement or someone's ​anger by ​acting in a ​friendly way or ​slightly ​changing ​your ​opinions
  • Sustained - continuing for an extended period or without interruption
  • Breakdown - failure
  • Ceasefire - an ​agreement, usually between two ​armies, to ​stop ​fighting in ​order to ​allow ​discussions about ​peace
  • Dimmed - reduced
  • Creeping - move slowly and carefully in order to avoid being heard or noticed
  • Circumstances - a ​fact or ​event that makes a ​situation the way it is
  • Mandate - an official order to do something
  • Articulate - able to ​express ​thoughts and ​feelings ​easily and ​clearly
  • Transition - the process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another

Topic 2 : "The unmet health challenge"

  • Unmet - not achieved or fulfilled
  • Deprivation - a ​situation in which you do not have things or ​conditions that are usually ​considered ​necessary
  • Severe - causing very ​great ​pain, ​difficulty, ​worry, ​damage, etc
  • Enlightened - showing ​understanding, ​acting in a ​positive way
  • Giant leap - significant and notableI progress
  • Quest - search for something
  • Evidently - in a way that is clearly seen or understood
  • Prosperous - bringing wealth and success
  • Crisis - a ​time of ​great difficulty / danger
  • Imperative - an essential or urgent thing
  • Asserting - state a fact confidently
  • Stunted - prevented from growing or developing properly
  • Rear - the back part of something
  • Metric - a system or standard of measurement
  • Deficit - loss
  • Lasting - continuing to ​exist for a ​long ​time or for ​ever
  • Impact - influence
  • Setback - something that ​happens that ​delays or ​prevents a ​process from ​developing
  • Intervention - to ​intentionally ​become ​involved in a ​difficult ​situation in ​order to ​improve it or ​prevent it from getting ​worse
  • Antenatal - before birth (related to pregnancy)
  • Anaemia - a ​medical ​condition in which there are not enough ​red ​blood ​cells in the ​blood
  • Immunisation - the process of protecting a ​person against a ​disease by putting vaccines into the ​body to make it ​produce ​antibodies
  • Emerge - to ​become ​known
  • Sustained - continuing for an extended period or without interruption
