National Affairs

• Government is planning to set up one billion dollar private equity fund for the renewable energy sector.
• Power Minister : Piyush Goyal
• The government is considering 33 per cent reservation for women in the Paramilitary forces.
• Note : Currently women comprise only 2.04 per cent of the paramilitary forces.

Science & Technology

• India successfully test-fires indigenously developed nuclear capable surface to surface ballistic missile Agni-I from Dr Abdul Kalam Wheeler Island off the Odisha coast. 
  
• Important Note : Agni-I is the first missile of the Agni series powered by both solid and liquid propellants can travel at a speed of 2.5 km per second and destroy targets nearly 700 km away.
• Indian Navy gets 2nd indigenous anti-submarine warship 'Kadmatt'.
• The ship is 109 metres long with a displacement of 3200 tons. 
• The ship has a maximum speed of 25 Knots. 
• It is designed to accommodate 17 officers and 106 sailors.

Awards & Honors

• Marathi film Katyar Kaljat Ghusali (Directed by Subodh Bhave) and Bengali film Cinemawala (Directed by Kaushik Ganguly) are among the twelve films shortlisted for prestigious 2015 UNESCO Fellini Medal.
• The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizations's (Unesco) Fellini medal, given to a film that reflects the world agency's ideals, will be awarded in India for the first time at the 46th International Film Festival of India (Iffi), in association with the International Council for Film, Television and Audiovisual Communication (ICFT), Paris.

Business & Economy

• State-run Union Bank of India today tied up with Maharashtra for Over-The-Counter (OTC) collection of taxes and receipts.
• The bank has integrated its core banking with the Maharashtra virtual treasury, GRAS (Government Receipt Accounting System), to facilitate OTC tax collection, which will provide one more mode of payment for convenience of tax payers and the state.
• Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is allowing foreign investors to buy corporate bonds that are either totally or partly in default, a potential boost to the country's nascent distressed debt market.
• British bank HSBC today announce that it will shut down its private banking business in India, an announcement that came amid an ongoing investigation by India's tax department against individuals who had unaccounted foreign currency accounts in the bank's Swiss branch.

New Appointments

• Indian-origin Antonio Costa became Prime Minister of Portugal.
• Aishath Bisam has been appointed the first woman Prosecutor General of Maldives.
• Congress appointed former Punjab Chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh as a new Punjab party president.
• He will replace former president Partap Singh Bajwa.
• Ola, India’s leading mobile app for personal transportation, today announced the appointment of Rajiv Bansal as its Chief Financial Officer. 

Deaths

• Distinguished Japanese historian of South India and South Asia Noboru Karashima passed away.
• He was a known Tamil scholar and was instrumental in setting up the International Association of Tamil Research (IATR) and was its president from 1989 to 2010.

Sports

• Australia and New Zealand have created history by playing first day-night Test match at the Adelaide Oval Cricket Stadium with a pink Kookaburra ball.
• India won the third cricket Test against South Africa by 124 runs to clinch the four-match series 2-0 in Nagpur today.
