International Affairs
  • Today (19th November) is International Men's Day.
    • Theme of International Men's Day 2015 : Working To Expand Reproductive Options for Men
  • Today (19th November) is World Toilet Day.
    • This day is observed by the United Nations to raise awareness about all people who do not have acess to a toilet - despite it is their basic right.
    • Note : 2.5 billion people in the world do not have access to proper sanitation.

  • Today (3rd Thursday of November) is World Philosophy Day.
    •  It was first celebrated on 21 November 2002.

National Affairs
  • 19th November is National Integration Day.
    • This day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of the first woman Prime Minister of the India, Indira Gandhi. 
    • She played a major role in strengthening the Indian democratic structure and tradition. 
    • She handled the war of 1971 against Pakistan and won it.
  • The Union Cabinet has decided to provide 3000 state government jobs to the Kashmiri migrants with financial assistance from the Government of India.
    • A package of Rs 2,000 crore will initially be be spent on their employment and rehabilitation.
  • 46th International Film Festival of India, Goa
    • The Man Who Knew Infinity' written and directed by Matthew Brown, will be the opening film of International Film Festival of this year at Goa. 
    • Argentina’s Oscar entry and this year’s biggest Argentinean box office hit - 'The Clan' (Directed by Pablo Trapero), will be the closing film of the festival. 
    • 'The Danish Girl' will be the midfest film. 
    • The Kingdom of Spain will be the focus country of IFFI 2015.

Business & Economy
  • 7th Pay Commission has submitted its report to the Government.
    • The Commission headed by Justice AK Mathur submitted report to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley at his residence in New Delhi.
    • The Commission was set up in February last year to revise remuneration of about 48 lakh central government employees and 55 lakh pensioners.
    • Its recommendations will also have a bearing on the salaries of the state government staff.
  • The Cabinet has approved the long-awaited Interest subvention scheme.
    • This scheme will allow exporters, mostly in the labour-intensive and small and medium sectors, to avail of loans from banks at a 3 per cent lower rate.
    • This scheme will be applicable from April 1, 2015.
    • The financial implication of the scheme is estimated to be in the range of Rs 2,500 crore to Rs 2,700 crore per year, an official statement said.

Sports
  • Russia’s anti-doping agency (RUSADA) was suspended by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), raising the possibility of Russian track stars being barred from the Olympics if the country does not fall back into line with accepted international rules.
