Science & Technology
  • India's latest communications satellite ‎GSAT‬-15 launched successfully from Kourou space port in French Guiana.
  • The amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere hit a new record high in 2014, according to a new report released by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO).
    • The report, titled Greenhouse Gas Bulletin, said that between 1990 and 2014 there was a 36% increase in radiative forcing -- the warming effect on our climate -- because of long-lived greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide from industrial, agricultural and domestic activities.
    • The bulletin explains that the atmospheric concentrations of CO2 has reached 397.7 parts per million (ppm) in 2014-and the global annual average is likely to pass the symbolic 400ppm milestone in 2016.

  • Pakistan's veteran batsman Younis Khan has announced his retirement from one-day international cricket.
    • Important Note : Younis Khan is the first Pakistani batsman to score 9000 Test runs.
  • London Olympics Silver medallist Vijay Kumar shot two more medals on the final day of the 13th Asian Shooting Championship to take India's final tally to 44 including 17 Gold, 14 Silver and 13 Bronze.
    • Vijay won the Bronze in the 25M Center Fire Pistol event and also teamed up with veteran Samaresh Jung and Pemba Tamang to bag the Team Silver in the event.
