International Affairs

National Affairs
  • In a major modification to the National Blood Policy, blood banks will now be able to borrow units from one another in case of a shortage.
    • The Union Health Ministry has taken this decision as part of reforms to the handling of blood units in the country.
    • Important Points to Note :
      • The shortage of blood units has been a recurring problem since the Supreme Court, on 1st January 1998, banned paid donation. 
      • According to the CDSCO, India has 2,760 licensed blood banks.

  • The Delhi government is going to set up a Panel with a Group of Ministers to examine enhancing punishment for those found guilty of Raping minors.
    • The panel will also examine whether probe related to rape cases can be made time bound.
    • The panel will also look into the possibility of fixing the minimum punishment as life term or death penalty.
    • The panel will consider a proposal to lower the age of Juvenile crime from 18 to 15.
    • This Panel will be headed by : Manish Sisodia(Deputy Chief minister)
  • The 46th International Film Festival of India will be held from 20th to 30th November 2015 at Goa.
    • This is one of the most significant film festivals in Asia.
    • Founded in : 1952

  • An Indian short film, An Old Dog’s Diary, has won the best short film award at the 2015 London Film Festival (LFF).
    • This film was  directed by : Shai Heredia and Shumona Goel.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally launched the new commercial bank IDFC Bank in New Delhi today.

Deaths
  • Acclaimed Egyptian novelist and journalist Gamal al-Ghitani has passed away.
    • Much of his work has been widely translated, including the 1974 novel Zayni Barakat, considered a seminal portrayal of authoritarian rule.
    • He won awards in Egypt for his writing, as well as being awarded France's Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 1987.
  • Actress Pat Woodell passed away.
    • She best remembered for her role as Bobbie Jo Bradley in 1960s series “Petticoat Junction”.

  • South Africa wins 3rd ODI by 18 runs against India at Rajkot.
  • Denmark Open 2015
    • China's Chen Long defeated Tommy Sugiarto in the final to win the Men's singles title.
    • China’s Xuerui Li defeated P V Sindhu to win the Women's Single title. 
  • Indian Tennis player Saketh Myneni wins 2015 Vietnam Open Tennis Trophy.
  • Johor Cup of Hockey 2015
    • Great Britain wins the cup by defeating India.
    • Indian junior men's hockey team ended as runner-ups.
