National Affairs
  • India is observing National Nutrition Week from Today (1st of September) to Monday (7th of September).
    • National Nutrition Week is celebrated each year from 1st September to the 7th September to aware the people about important tips of their health and well-being.
    • The main objective of this campaign is to create awareness on the importance of nutrition for health which has far reaching implications on development, productivity, economic growth and ultimately national development.
    • This campaign was first started by the central government in the year 1982 in order to encourage the good health and healthy living through the nutrition education as the malnutrition is the main obstruction to the National Development.
    • The Women and Child Development Ministry has decided to intensify its efforts in battling malnourishment among children this year.

      • Theme of 2011 : “Feeding smart from the start”.
      • Theme of 2012 : “Nutrition Awareness – Key to Healthy Nation”.

      • Theme of 2014 : “Poshak Aahar Desh ka Aadhar”.
      • Theme of 2015 : "Better Nutrition: Key to Development".
  • The Manipur Assembly has unanimously passed Three Bills (one original and two amendments) to protect the indigenous people of the state.
    • They were,
      • the Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015
      • the Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (7th amendment) Bill, 2015
      • the Manipur Shops and Establishments (Second Amendment) Bill, 2015.

  • India has won the top UNESCO prize 'Award of Excellence' 2015 for the remarkable conservation efforts of the majestic Sree Vadakkunnathan Temple in Kerala.

Business & Economy
  • Government accepts AP Shah panel recommendations on Minimum Alternative Tax (MAT)
    • This recommendation is to amend the Income Tax Act, exempting foreign institutional investors and foreign portfolio investors from MAT on transactions prior to April 1, 2015.
    • Note : This amendment will be applicable on FIIs and FDIs but not on foreign companies. 
  • Prime Minister today announced that Bihar will get three lakh seventy four thousand crore rupees in next five years through 14th Finance Commission.
  • The union government has released Rs.2,000 crore to the Employees' Pension Scheme as its contribution for the year 2015-16.
    • Note : The minimum pension for the EPS pensioners was increased to Rs 1,000 per month in September last year.

  • India has won Cricket Test Series on Sri Lanka by 117 runs in the third and final test at Colambo.
    • Pujara named man of the match.

      • India won this Test series on Sri Lankan soil after 22 years.

  • Ishant Sharma‬ suspended for one Test match for breaching ICC Code of Conduct in 3rd Test in Sri Lanka.
