International Affairs
  • A Pakistani anti-corruption court today issued non-bailable arrest warrants against former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and former trade minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim for allegedly minting money by approving subsidies to fake companies. 
    • Gilani and Fahim are named in a multi-million-rupee graft scandal for alleged corrupt earnings by approving subsidies to fake companies through a scheme of TDAP. 

National Affairs
  • Minister of Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu today announced the list of 98 SmartCity‬ nominees
    • Maximum number of Smart City in Uttar Pradesh followed by Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. 
    • Note : 13 crore population across 98 cities which is 35% of urban population will be covered under the Smart City Mission.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Global Call to Action Summit 2015 at New Delhi. 
    • Hosting Country : India
    • This Summit has been co-hosted with the Health Ministry of Ethiopia and in partnership with Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Tata Trusts, UNICEF, USAID, UK Aid and WHO. 
    • Note : For the first time the Global Call to Action Summit is being held outside USA.
  • The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for amending the central list of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) to include Sipai and Patni Jamat or Turk Jamat (all Muslims) of Gujarat and Kahar and Tanwar Singhariya of Uttarakhand.
    • Note : The decision in the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was taken as per the advice received from the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC).

Science & Technology
  • India successfully places its latest communication satellite GSAT-6 in the orbit.
    • GSLV-D6 launched from the Second Launch Pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
    • GSLV-D6 is the 9th flight of India's Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV).
    • It is also the 5th development flight of GSLV.
    • This is the 3rd time the indigenously developed Cryogenic Upper Stage (CUS) is being carried on-board during a GSLV flight.
    • GSLV-D6 will be launched from the Second Launch Pad at Satish Dhaan Space Centre SHAR (SDSC Shar), Sriharikota.

New Appointments
  • eCommerce major Snapdeal has appointed former Adobe executive Rajiv Mangla as Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
    • In his new role, Mangla will establish the company's technical vision and lead all aspects of its technological development, Snapdeal said in a statement.

Awards & Honors
  • World No. 1 tennis player Novak Djokovic was today appointed UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
    • In this new role he will focus on children's rights and access to early childhood care and development. 

Sports
  • India's Manish Kaushik beats M Hossen of Bangladesh 3-0 in the first round at Asian Boxing Championships in Bangkok.
  • Jamaica's Usain Bolt has claimed his fourth consecutive world 200 metre title.
    • Bolt has now won 11 of the last 12 individual Olympic and world sprint titles dating back to 2008 Beijing Olympics.
