International Affairs
  • The 9th edition of Earth Hour was observed.
    • People across the globe show their growing concern over climate change by switching off the lights for an hour.
    • Earth Hour is a worldwide movement for the planet organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
    • The event is held worldwide annually encouraging individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m
    • This event observed on the last Saturday in March, as a symbol for our commitment to the planet
  • Singapore bids final adieu to its founding father Lee Kuan Yew.
    • World leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi attend the funeral.

National Affairs
  • The government today sanctioned a Rs 5,113 crore project to develop a next-generation Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS), which will act as a 360-degree 'Eye in the Sky', and also approved purchase of two Airbus A330 aircraft for the same.
    • The decision was taken by the Defence Acquisition Council, headed by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar
    • It will be developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (‪‎DRDO‬).
