Time and Work Practice Test

Useful Formulae of Time and Work :

1. If P1 persons working H1 a day can complete W1 units of work in D1 days, and P2 persons working for H2 a day can complete W2 units of work in D2 days then
(P1.H1.D1) / W1 = (P2. H2. D2) / W2

2.  If the amount of work is not mentioned in either of the two cases then it should be treated as same in both the cases then
P1. D1. H1 = P2. D2. H2

3. Even if the working hours not mentioned in both the cases then H1 & H2 can be dropped
=> P1. D1 = P2. D2

4. A can do a work in X days. If B is K times as efficient as A then B can do the work in X/K days. Both A and B together can do the work in ((X / (K + 1)) days

Now lets work with some practice problems. Try to solve these on your own and check with the given answers. You will get detailed solutions with explanations soon.

  7. 150 men worked for 20 days
    so unit of work done is 150*20 =3000
    another 80 men joined after 20 days and the work finished in 50 days means 230 men worked for 30 days
    so work done by 230 men 230*30=6900
    so total unit. of work is 6900+3000=9900
    so if the additional workers were not employed the work would finish in 9900/150=66
    66-50=16 days behind schedule

    ReplyDelete
  8. given 3w=2m
    1w=2/3m
    21w=21*2/3
    =14m
    now applying the formulaM1D1H1=M2D2H2
    15*21*8=14*6*D
    D=30 days

    ReplyDelete
  9. 150 men worked for 20 days 150*20=3000 unit
    another 80 men added means 230 men worked for 30 days 230*30=6900
    total 6900+3000=9900 unit if additional men not joined
    150 men would take 9900/150=66 days 66-50 = 16 days behind

  11. 150 men did 150*20=3000 unit work
    230 men did 230*30=6900 unit
    total 9900 unit work
    150 men would hv done the work in 9900/150=66 days
    66-50 =16 behind

    THEY WORK 1 MEN AND 1 WOMEN
    SO TAKE AS 1/2 FOR MEN AND 1/3 FOR WOMEN
    TAKING LCM YOU GET 5/6 AND TAKE RECIPROCAL 6/5*4=ANS 24/5 DAYS

    ReplyDelete
  19. 1m=3w=5b
    1w=1/3m
    1b=1/5m
    1m+1b+1w
    =1+1/3+1/5=23/15 m
    1 man does in 46 days
    23/15 man ll do in 46/23/15=30 days

    remauning work 1-1/3=2/3
    applying M1D1H1/W1=M2D2H2/W2

  23. correct. becoz total 18 days and 18-12=6

    ReplyDelete
  24. u r right about it but what about 2nd quess it is 14 i think ....

    ReplyDelete
  25. 2men take 6 days it means 1 man take 12 days for d same task similarly 1 women take 18 days & 1child take 24 days lcm of 12:18:24 is 72 now divide
    men 72/12 - 6
    women 72/18 - 4
    children 72/24 - 3

    total work is to do now is 72 the lcm

    3women × 4 + 4 children ×3
    12 +12 =24 work done in one day
    remaining work 72-24 =48
    48/6 men case so ans is 8....
