Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) Quick Preparation Plan - Jisha G. Nair

Dear Future Air Warriors, here I am writing the AFCAT preparation plan which I used for AFCAT 02/2013. This plan is mainly for those aspirants, who already wrote AFCAT at least once. If you are a new player, then also you can follow this plan. But I would suggest you to repeat a day’s plan in the very next day also. Here I am providing a 25 day plan. Those first timers and those who believe that they are not having the basic knowledge in the topics, are suggested to repeat 1 day’s plan in the very next day also, by clearing basics on first day and practicing on 2nd day or reading for the first time in 1st day and reading again the same topic on the 2nd day, so for such aspirants, this will be a 50 day plan. And, this plan is a tight preparation plan, those who know that they will get exhausted, can increase number of days accordingly and work on it. This is because, IAF is increasing the difficulty level of the exam each time.

Let us have a look on AFCAT Syllabus :

 SYLLABUS of AFCAT

1. The AFCAT Question Paper will have 100 questions. All questions will be of three marks each. For every correct answer the candidate will get three marks and for every wrong answer one mark will be deducted under negative marking. The total time allotted for the paper is two hours.
2. Each Question Paper will have questions from the following topics:-
(a) General Awareness – History, Sports, Geography, Environment, Civics, Basic Science, Defence, Art, Culture, Current Affairs, Politics etc.
(b) Verbal Ability in English – Comprehension, Error Detection, Sentence Completion, Synonyms, Antonyms and Testing of Vocabulary.
(c) Numerical Ability – Decimal Fraction, Simplification, Average, Profit & loss, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion and Simple interest.
(d) Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test – Verbal Skills and Spatial Ability.

Your AFCAT score also plays a role in the final merit list, so focus on getting maximum marks. In the plan,I have not included time for solving mock papers. If you have mock papers, you can solve it during revision time slots. Have a look on previous papers form their site once, and first timers try solving one paper(either AFCAT 01/2013 or AFCAT 02/2013 paper) before you start. This will give you an idea about where do you stand. For AFCAT, we cannot predict the General
Awareness section, but read as much as possible. All other sections will fetch you marks by practice.

Also, this plan is based on various books,i.e separate book for each section, and not based on any ‘all in one book’ type of books. The books are

General Awareness - Lucent’s G.K. There are many other good books, it is not mandatory to read from Lucent,I have Lucent only. So,I use Lucent. You can use any good book  for this section. IAF has mentioned Civics and Politics, so Polity section from Lucent will do the job.(Someone reading this may have Polity by Laxmikant, and I hope such people know very much better than me,to manage studies.) And,for environment,Chemistry+Biology+Geography+Miscellaneous from Lucent will cover the topics.Sports and Defence basics are also there in Miscellaneous section from Lucent. But read the important happenings in both these sectors. For that you may search from net by yourself and for that only I have mentioned Sports and Defence separately.Current Affairs-If you read news paper daily, then you just need a revision, which can be done using any Gr8Ambitionz.com /current affairs site / study site.

Verbal Ability in English - Objective English by R.S Aggarwal & Vikas Aggarwal(one small book). Other book by R.S Aggarwal will also do. If you can, read basics from Wren & Martin. English is a bit tough section in AFCAT.

Numerical Ability - M.Tyra, and any other book for practice. Even Quantum CAT by Sarvesh Kumar will do..:D.

Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test - Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning by R.S Aggarwal.
