INTERNATIONAL EVENTS
  • Iran's foreign minister MohammadJavad Zarif says his country will continue nuclear negotiations with world powers, even after pulling out of expert-level talks to protest the US targeting companies it says evaded current sanctions.
  • A bomb explosion killed several members of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Mali in the troubled northern city of Kidal.
NATIONAL EVENTS
  • UNAIDS has urged Indian Government to repeal Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code that criminalises gay sex.
  • Three Lok Sabha MPs have jointly written a letter to Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge to immediately order for a fresh engineering survey for laying a new railway line between Nilambur in Kerala’s Malappuram district and Karnataka’s Nanjagud in Mysore district via The Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu.
  • The 103-year-old Park Mansions on Kolkata's upscale Park Street has been given a prestigious heritage award for the restoration of it's colonial era architecture.
  • Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath along with Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda to officially inaugurate the Gurgaon Rapid Metro.
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
  • China's first lunar rover successfully landed on the moon, making the communist giant one of three world powers to make a "soft landing" as part of an ambitious programme that aims to put a Chinese astronaut on the moon.
  • Iran said on 14th December it has successfully sent a monkey into space for a second time, part of an ambitious program aimed at manned space flight.
AWARDS AND HONOURS
  • Indian actor Irrfan Khan won the best actor award for his brilliant performance in The Lunchbox at the 10th edition of Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF).
APPOINTMENTS
  • The government has appointed Harsh Kumar Bhanwala as Chairman of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard).
  • Shivraj Singh Chouhan sworn in as Madhya Pradesh chief minister for third consecutive term, nearly a week after he led BJP to a spectacular hat-trick in assembly elections.
  • Lal Thanhawla, who steered Congress to a landslide victory in Mizoram, was sworn-in as chief minister by Governor Vakkom Purushothaman on 14 December 2013.

DEATHS
  • Oscar-winning actress Joan Fontaine has died aged 96.
  • Union Labour and Employment Minister Sis Ram Ola died at a Gurgaon hospital after a prolonged illness.

SPORTS
  • India beat Pakistan 48-39 to emerge champions of the fourth World Cup Kabaddi played at the Guru Nanak Stadium on 14 December 2013.
  • PN Prakash of Karnataka won gold in the men's 50m Free pistol event at the 57th National Shooting Championship while Punjab's Malaika Goel captured the yellow metal in the women's section, on 14th December 2013.
  • Ethiopian runner Atsedu Tsegay won the Men's Delhi Half Marathon (21.097 km) by creating a new race record.
