Detailed Syllabus of IBPS RRB Officer Scale I / Probationary Officer (PO) Exam

Friends, as all of you know IBPS has released the recruitment notification of Officers Scale (I, II and III) and Office Assistants in Regional Rural Banks (RRBs). In this post we shall discuss the syllabus and preparation plan for Officers Scale I Exam / Probationary Officers (PO) Exam which is going to be held during  September 2014. Before going into detailed syllabus, lets start with the paper pattern.

This time the exam is going to be Online. That means there are less chances for lengthy questions. 

The online exam consists of the following sections. Each sections consists of 40 Questions . You should solve them in 2 hours and 30 minutes time.
  1. Reasoning                             ----------    50 Marks
  2. Quantitative Aptitude           ----------    50 Marks
  3. General Awareness               ----------    40 Marks
  4.  English / Hindi Language (You can choose any of these)
    1. Hindi Language                     ----------    40 Marks
    2. English Language                  ----------    40 Marks
  5. Computer Knowledge           ----------    20 Marks

Difficulty Level of the Exam :  The IBPS Regional Rural Banks Exams are usually easier than normal IBPS Exams. The difficulty level of IBPS RRB Officer Scale I exam will be almost similar to IBPS Clerical exam.

Hindi Language

  • Only native hindi speakers choose this section. So, your basic Hindi knowledge is enough to get good marks in this section. So, don't waste much time on this area.
  • You should concentrate on the following areas
    • Passage (Gadyansh - गद्यांश)
    • Synonyms (समानार्थी शब्द)
    • Antonyms (असमानार्थी शब्द)
    • Checking mistakes in व्याकरण, भाषा, वर्तनी
    • Filling the given Blanks with suitable words

Computer Knowledge

  • Computer Fundamentals
  • Basic Hardware and Software, their functionalities
  • Shortcut Keys
  • MS Office
  • Operating Systems
  • History
  • Networking and Internet
  • Future of Computers

General Awareness

Usually for IBPS PO / Clerk exams in General Awareness section they ask questions from Current Affairs and Banking Awareness in 50-50 basis. But for IBPS RRB Exams they pay less attention on Banking Awareness. So, you should mainly focus on Current Affairs.
  • For Current Affairs you should concentrate all important events occured for last 6 months (excluding 15 days before the exam). 
  • You should concentrate on
    • Summits
    • New Appointments
    • Deaths
    • Visits / Visitors
    • Days 
    • Books and Authors
    • Important Events
    • Countries / Heads / Currencies 
  • For Banking Awareness you should focus on
    • History of Banking
    • Banking Terms
    • Important events occuring in banking industry (white lable ATMs, all woman bank etc....)
    • no need to concentrate on Financial Awareness.
Note :  The syllabus of IBPS RRB POs (Officer Scale I) and Clerks (Office Assistants) is completely same. Only the difficulty level varies. So, you can follow the above syllabus for Clerical preparation too.
