International Affairs
  • India and China will soon have a hotline between their service headquarters for avoiding and handling situations such as a possible border flare-up. Setting up of a hotline between officers at the level of Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) has been a long-standing proposal by India to China for having peace and tranquility at the border.
  • Buddhist-majority country Sri Lanka today tightened security at Sri Maha Bodhi, one of its holiest sites, a day after terror attack hit Mahabodhi temple in India.
  • India and Albania today signed the double taxation avoidance agreement (DTAA) to facilitate the exchange of banking information and help check tax evasion.

  • The BSE benchmark sensex on Monday fell over 171 points dragged by oil and gas and banking stocks, including ONGC, ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank, on rupee hitting a new low against the dollar spurring concerns that RBI might delay a rate cut and FIIs would pull out funds.
  • Shares in South Korea's Asiana Airlines shed 6.4 per cent on Monday after one of its passenger jets crashed at San Francisco airport over the weekend, killing two people and leaving 182 injured.
  • The food ministry is in favour of a 7.5 per cent import duty on pulses as against 10 per cent suggested by the Commission for Agriculture Costs and Prices (CACP) to boost domestic production.
  • The BSE benchmark index sensex fell by nearly 263 points in early trade on Monday on profit-booking by funds at prevailing higher levels amid a mixed trend in the Asian region.
