International Affairs
  • A Cairo court has adjourned to August 17 the retrial of former President Hosni Mubarak over charges of corruption and involvement in the killing of protesters during the 2011 uprising that ousted him.
  • Syria's main opposition on Saturday elected Mr Ahmad Assi Jarba to lead the movement which groups opponents of President Bashar al-Assad, spokesman Khaled Saleh said.
  • National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon is scheduled to visit Colombo next week to hold talks on a tri-lateral maritime security treaty among India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
  • Gunmen believed to be Islamists from Nigeria's Boko Haram insurgent group killed 42 people, mostly students, in an overnight attack on a secondary school in restive Yobe state, a medical worker and residents said Saturday.

  • Laxman Hembram, a 17-year-old tribal student of Odisha, has been invited to participate in the Malala Day United Nations Youth Assembly at the UN Headquarters in New York on July 12.
  • A group of 25 students and five teachers from various government-run schools across DimaHasao and Cachar districts of Assam left for Delhi, Agra and Mathura on a 15-day tour on Tuesday as part of the national integration tour organized by the Madras regiment of the Indian Army.
  • Oil Minister M Veerappa Moily arrived in Baghdad today with a high level delegation as India looks to expand cooperation in energy and other sectors with post-war Iraq.Moily is leading a 28-member delegation to take part in the 17th India-Iraq Joint Commission on Economic and Technical Cooperation tomorrow.
  • In a move that would boost marine tourism in the state, Tamil Nadu would soon have a world class marine aquarium at Mamallapuram, which would house acrylic glass tunnels among other features.
  • International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) Rocks 2013 celebrates 100 years of Indian cinema in Macau.
