National Events
- Women MPs in both the house of parliament
stressed the need for safety to women and passage of Women Reservation Bill, on
the occasion of International Women’s day, 8th March.
- Delhi gang rape victim was honoured with Rani Lakshmi
bai Award at Stri Shakti Puraskar , 2012 ceremony. Along with,five other women
also awarded with Sthri Shakti puraskar. President Pranab Mukherjee presented
these awards at Vigyan Bhavan.

Pakistan prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf is
going to visit 13th century Ajmer dargah today. However, dargah
head boycotted his visit against atrocities committed by Pakistan soldiers
against Indian jawans.
- Maharashtra Govt. passed Women Bill that gives
freedom to women and children in taking surname of their choice.
- While condemning brutal attack on lawyers at
Jaipur and Chandigarh Bar Council of India (BCI) gave call for All India strike
on March 11th.
International Events
- World leaders mourned for the demise of Hugo
Chavez, 14 year president of Venezuela, at his funeral. Vice president Nicolas
Maduro sworn in as acting president.
- North Korea threatened nuclear attack against UN
Security Council sanctions on it. Korean War was started in 1951. However, no
peace agreement was signed yet between the two Korean countries. Eventually, DMZ
(De Militarised Zone), border between both countries, became world’s most heavy
militarised border.
Economy

Insurance Regulatory Development Authority
(IRDA) issued fresh guidelines to life insurance companies. It mandated these
companies to invest at least 25% of their total corpus in Govt. securities.
They can also invest at least 15% in infrastructure bonds.

Market regulator SEBI (Securities Exchange Board
of India) issued fresh guidelines to govern issue and listing of non-convertible
preferential shares in order to enhance transparency and protect small
investors.

SBI opened its premier bank in Bengaluru for HNI
(High Net worth Individuals) .
- Engineering and Infrastructure giant L&T was barred from taking worldbank projects for 6 months on charges of forgery.
- World Bank chief, Jim Yong Kim, is to visit India on March 11th, in his first ever visit to India for 3 days. He took charges as president in last July.
