  • Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is going to test country’s first subsonic missile Nirbhay Tuesday from Chndipur, Odisha. Its range is 1000 km and is a derivative of pilotless target aircraft Lakshya. Nirbhay was been designed by Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) , Bengaluru.
  • According to report of ‘Urban Emissions, Info. And Green peace India’, titled, ‘Coal kills’, coal based power plants caused 1,15,000 premature deaths in various parts of India and resulted in 20 million asthma cases. This report is the first of it’s kind.
  • It’s noteworthy here that, India produces 210GW of power every year and stands 5th in the world, of which 66% is coal based.
  • All is set to lay foundation for Amrutha Sinchana Spiritual University, which offer degrees and diploma in courses such as Rudraksha, feng shui, numerology etc. in Bengaluru. However it’s been criticised by various sections as unscientific and as an attempt of  saffronisation of higher education by the government.

  • National League for Democracy (NLD) meeting held at Yangon (Myanmar) re-elected Aung San Suu Kyi as their leader.
  • Process of electing next Pope is going to start on Tuesday after the resignation of Pope Benedict.
  • Uhuru Kenyatta was elected as new president of Kenya, on Saturday. However, he’s convicted for crimes against humanity by International Criminal Court (ICC) in 2007.
