In this post we shall discuss about Percentage Calculations. Have a look at the following examples.

  • 39 is what percent of 186 ?

  • Remember friends. The number that follows 'OF' should always come in the Denominator. And here I am not going to use any mathematical techniques. Just guessing the answer with the given numbers. Remember, No need to get the EXACT answer. Approximate answers will be sufficient (Until you have options like A)12.06 B)12.63 C)12.89 etc....)
  • So, here we have to calculate (39/186) X 100
    • 10% of the denominator is 18.6
    • 20 % of the denominator is 18.6 X 2 = 37.2
    • 1% of the denominator is 1.86
    • 21% of the denominator is 37.2+1.86 = 39.06 this is approximately equal to 39
      • So, 39/186 = 21%

  • 457 is what percent of 1382?

  • First check the numbers. The mentally divide 1382 with 2. It will be something like 650+. This is not our required answer. And it seems dividing 1382 with 3 may get the required answer 457. So, divide 1382 with 3. (1/3)X1382 this is approximately equal to 461 = 33.33%
  • The difference between the given number and the number taken by us 461 - 457 = 4 this is approximately equal to 3 X 1.38 = 0.3%
  • So, 457/1382 = 33.33%-0.3%
  • = 33.03%

  • Find the value of 26% of 496

  • 26% = 25%+1%
  • 25% of 496 = 1/4 of 496     =    124
  • 1%   of 496 =                      =        4.96
                                                          -------------

  •  26% of 496                         =    128.96

  • Find the value of 35.6% of 928

  • 10% of 928 = 92.8
  • 30% of 928= 92.8 X 3 = 278.4
  • 5% of 928 = 46.4
  • 0.1 % of 928 = 0.928
  • 35.6%     =     30%    =   278.4
  •                       +  5%  =     46.4
  •                      + 0.5% =       4.6
  •                      + 0.1% =       0.9
  •                                         -------------
  •                                          330.3

                        30% + 5% + 0.5% + 0.1%
                      278.8 + 46.4 + 4.6 + 0.9 =330.3
